Truck Spills 7,000 Gallons of Milk

In a trucking accident Thursday, a truck hauling two tankers full of milk overturned on Interstate 84, spilling 7,000 gallons of milk and stopping traffic.

Crews responded on the scene at 6am and closed two lanes of traffic quickly, causing rush hour to backup.

No injuries were reported and one lane remained open as the road crew worked to clean up the milk and remove the overturned trailer. As of Thursday there was no cause for the accident.

Driver Injured when Armored Truck Strikes Vehicle

An armored truck crashed into the back of a pickup truck, injuring the driver on Interstate 5, Monday.

The driver was traveling northbound on I-5 at approximately 10:40am when his pickup truck was hit from behind by an Oregon Armored Services armored truck. He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The drivers of the armored truck were not injured and the truck was not damaged. An investigation is ongoing.

Man Assisting Co-Worker Dies in Trucking Accident

A man died in a trucking accident while assisting his co-worker. At approximately 12:30pm on Friday, Gregory Striker, was helping a co-worker who was trying to park a semi trailer, when he fell beneath the wheels of the very trailer he was guiding.

Apparently, Striker was standing on the road between a "lowboy" trailer and a pivoting dolly that was being towed behind it. Striker may have been distracting by approaching traffic and didn't see the trailer begin to move, reports indicated.

The truck driver, Kenneth Watrous, told the Police he wasn't aware Striker was standing in between the trailers when he moved the truck forward.

Striker died a short time after being transported to Oregon Health and Science University.

Another I-5 truck accident closes freeway

A January 5 motor vehicle accident on I-5 in Salem involved a semi truck and a Chevrolet Avalanche. The drivers of both vehicles were hospitalized but listed in stable condition.

The truck reportedly leaked about 100 gallons of diesel fuel, which the Oregon Department of Transportation worked to contain with absorbent materials before it entered the storm drain. The crash happened at the southbound on-ramp for Kuebler Boulevard at 8:48 a.m., closing the ramp for hours.

Major rollover truck accident on I-5 South

Just last month, a rollover accident involving a semi truck on Interstate 5 just south of Creswell left the freeway closed most of the day, according to a Salem-News report on December 11.

The truck was hauling a trailer with 30 tons of almonds when it collided with a concrete construction barrier, casing it to turn over on its side. The accident blocked both lanes of traffic and spilled roughly 300 gallons of diesel fuel. The Oregon Department of Transportation worked quickly to contain the spill with absorbent booms, preventing the fuel from contaminating a nearby waterway.

The trucking accident was the third crash on this stretch of I-5, which is undergoing construction, in 10 days.
